Detailed Description:
Challenged to create a representation of “the great outdoors,” Charles Pritchard went searching for just the right image. On his farm in northern Missouri, he was lucky enough to spot a bluebird perched on the remains of a door from an old out-building. He has recreated that scene here. The bluebird is hand carved and painted. Details of each feather were created with a wood burning tool before color was applied. The barn board on which our bluebird rests is from the door on which Dr. Pritchard saw the real bird resting. The nail is original, but the hook was recreated through an intricate process that involved casting in a mold and finally rolling the new piece in sawdust to reproduce a texture similar to that of the original rusted metal. The bird’s feet are pewter; the board on which he sits is mounted on a redwood burl base. The piece stands 15 inches high, is 8 inches wide and 5½ inches front to back. |
